There are three layers for each of the leg and foot parts: legupper, leglower and foot. The animation is 12 frames in length.

Above: The original foot and leg combination was flat - no movement other than going up vertically and coming back down.
The bottom "Final version of Leg movement" shows how the leg squats down and takes off then arches forward and returns back to its original position in frame 11 .
